Laura Jean Brand joined the Waynesboro Symphony Orchestra near its inception over 25 years ago. She took a break from the orchestra while her children were small, rejoining over five years ago. She has enjoyed playing the flute since elementary school. She performed with the Cornell Wind Ensemble during college. She plays chamber music in both Waynesboro and Charlottesville.
Laura Jean is a family physician, and she had a private practice in Waynesboro for many years. She now volunteers both as a physician and with several non-profit boards in the community. She owns a farm in Augusta County, on which she manages several projects in environmental conservation.
In addition to playing the flute and her involvement with the orchestra, she enjoys reading, gardening, hiking, and traveling and spending time with her husband, Asher.
